Agricultural Produce Market Committee Pune

India is an agricultural country and the economy of India depends on agricultural production. Almost 70 percent of the population earns their living from agriculture. Farmers could not sell the agricultural produce grown by the farmers as they wished. Agricultural produce was being sold secretly by market intermediaries, brokers, and big traders in the market through Hatta method (Sale Under Cover). Agricultural produce was being weighed through the names of traders. There were irregularities like fraud, shortages, irregularities etc. Charity and other undesirable practices were prevalent in the market and the farmers were suffering all this in despair. Due to this, it became necessary to bring the market under regulation to bring the farmers out.

The first market committee in India was established in Karanjalad in the year 1886. This market committee was established to regulate the purchase and sale of cotton.
